Transfer your domain without downtime
Move a domain here from another provider. We copy the settings across first, so the site and the email keep working throughout.
Transferring a domain sounds riskier than it is. A transfer changes the registrar, meaning the company that administers the domain for you. It does not change where the domain points. The site and the email work exactly as before once the same DNS records are in place at the new registrar.
Downtime usually comes from the records themselves: if they are not copied to the new place, email can stop working. We copy your current records across before the transfer. You can also send a screenshot of the old provider's DNS view and Kamu will read the records out of the image, so you do not have to retype them.

What a transfer costs
The price depends on the extension and is shown per domain in the search, alongside the renewal price. For most extensions the transfer also adds a year to the registration, so you are not paying for the same year twice. We charge no separate service fee for handling the transfer for you.
After the transfer the domain renews automatically unless you turn renewal off. Contact privacy and the transfer lock are in place, and you can edit DNS records yourself in the dashboard at any time.
You do not have to transfer
If you want a site from us but would rather keep the domain where it is, that works. You change one record in your current provider's control panel to point at your site, and everything else stays as it was. We will tell you what to change, or do it for you if you give us access.
A transfer is worth it when you want the domain, the site and the invoicing in one place, or when your current provider's renewal price has gone up. If you would rather do the transfer yourself and are looking for the technical steps, they are in our manual.

Common questions
Will my site or email go down during the transfer?
Not when the records are moved first. A domain transfer changes the registrar, not where the domain points. We copy your current DNS records across beforehand, so the site and the email keep working exactly as before.
Where do I get the authorisation code?
From your current provider. It is usually in their control panel as an auth code, EPP code or authorisation code, and with some providers you have to ask support for it. While you are there, check that the transfer lock is off.
What does a transfer cost?
It depends on the extension and is shown per domain in the search. For most extensions the transfer also adds a year to the registration, so you are not paying for the same year twice.
How long does it take?
Typically from a few hours to a few days depending on the extension. The registries confirm transfers at their own pace and we cannot speed that up. Your site and email keep working throughout.
Do I have to transfer if I want a site from you?
No. You can leave the domain with your current registrar and simply point it at us by changing one record. Transferring is worth it when you want everything in one place and on one invoice.
