Website redesign

Website redesign built from your current site

Enter the address of your current website, and Kamu reads its texts, contact details, colours, logo and fonts into a proposal for the new site. You check the proposal first, then the site is built in about half an hour. Your domain stays the same.

When is a redesign worth it?

A single wrong opening hour can be fixed on the old site. If several of the points below are true, a new site is usually quicker than patching the old one.

  • The site is hard to use on a phone. A large share of visitors arrive on a phone. If the text is too small or the site is not made for small screens, many leave before they find what they came for.
  • Pages load slowly. If a page loads slowly, many people close the tab rather than wait. This is especially true on a phone with a slow connection. Speed also affects search rankings. The usual causes are an old theme, large images or plugins that have piled up over the years.
  • The information is out of date and hard to change. Prices, opening hours or services have changed, but updating the site is difficult. Often it would need the original developer, the credentials are lost or nobody remembers how the publishing tool works.
  • The site no longer describes the business. Services have changed or the business has grown, but the front page still tells the old story.
  • The browser shows a security warning. If the site has no HTTPS, the browser marks it as not secure, and many visitors leave at that point.
  • Visitors come but do not get in touch. Many visitors glance at the page for a few seconds and leave. If the site does not show right away what the business does and how to get in touch, they easily move on to a competitor’s site.

How the redesign works

Unlike in an agency project, you do not need to write a brief or collect material, because the old site serves as the material.

  1. 1 Enter your current site address. On the front page, fill in your business name, a few words about what you want and the address of your current website.
  2. 2 Kamu reads the current site.Kamu goes through the pages of the old site and collects the services, texts, contact details, opening hours, colours, logo, fonts and images.
  3. 3 Check the proposal. The proposal is ready in a few minutes. The collected details are shown in a form where you can correct and complete them. For the logo you can keep the current one, upload your own or have a new one made.
  4. 4 The new site is built. The build takes about half an hour. The finished site opens at a preview address, where you can edit it at your own pace and ask Kamu for changes in your own words.
  5. 5 Publish on your own domain. When the site is ready, transfer the domain to us or point it at the new site. The old site stays online until then, and the subscription starts only at this point.

How a redesign affects search visibility

Every Kotisivukamu site is optimised for both search engines and AI assistants (SEO and GEO). Each page has a title, a description and a canonical address. The site also has a sitemap, robots.txt and structured data about the business. You can read more about this under services.

When the domain stays the same, the new site carries on from the old site’s search history. That is why a redesign usually improves visibility, especially if the old site was slow or hard to use on a phone.

Old subpage addresses can change. If a subpage gets a lot of visitors from search, check its address before publishing (Google Search Console shows this) and tell Kamu or us, so the new site can have a page at the same address.

Search engines usually notice the new site within a few days. You can speed this up by resubmitting the sitemap in Google Search Console and requesting indexing for the most important pages. The effect on rankings shows within a few weeks.

Worth checking before you publish

  • Out-of-date details.Kamu picks up everything from the old site. It is best to correct out-of-date details in the proposal before the build starts.
  • Domain transfer. You do not have to transfer your domain to us. You can keep it with your current provider and point it at the new site. We do recommend transferring it, because then we can make the needed setting changes for you and you never have to edit records yourself. The transfer is explained step by step on the page domain transfer.
  • Email. If you only point the domain at the new site, email works as before. If you transfer the domain to us, check after the transfer that all records have moved correctly and email works normally.
  • Forms.Check which addresses the old site’s form sent messages to. Set the same addresses in the dashboard, and contact requests keep reaching the right mailboxes.
  • Ending the old contract.Cancel the old hosting or site service as soon as the new site works on your own domain. If your email is with the same host, move it elsewhere first.

What the redesign costs

Redesigning your site with Kotisivukamu does not need a separate project. The first version is free, and no card is needed. The subscription starts only when you are happy with the site and point your domain at it.

There are two plans. Lite is 3.90 €/month (46.80 €/year, billed yearly) and Pro is 9.99 €/month billed yearly or 13.99 €/month billed monthly. Prices are VAT 0 %. Hosting, the HTTPS certificate, maintenance, visitor analytics and forms are included in both. Later changes made by Kamu use Kamu Balance, of which Pro accrues 10 € a month. A domain registered with us is billed separately.

Website redesign: questions

Will my Google rankings be kept?

If the domain, the page addresses and the content stay the same, rankings should not change. Some short-term fluctuation is normal while search engines go through the redesigned site. Pages that rank well are worth carrying over to the new site with the same content and at the same addresses. Google Search Console shows which pages bring the most visitors from search, and our customer support can help you check them.

Is the old content carried over automatically?

Kamu reads the pages of the old site and picks up services, texts, contact details, opening hours, colours, logo, fonts and images. They appear in a proposal you check before the build. The new site’s texts are written from the old content, so the wording can change. If you want a page’s text to stay as it is, mention it in the proposal.

Does an online shop or booking system carry over?

The site does not include its own shop or booking system, but your existing service can be embedded on the site or linked to.

Do pages behind a login carry over?

Not automatically. Kamu reads the site the way a visitor sees it, so it cannot see private areas such as customer portals behind a login. If you need help with them, contact our customer support.

Do I have to transfer my domain to you?

No. You can keep it with your current provider and change one record to point at the new site. We do recommend transferring it, because then we can make the needed setting changes for you and you never have to edit records yourself. The domain, the site and the invoice are then also in one place.

Does the old site stay online during the redesign?

Yes. The new site sits at a preview address until you point your domain at it. Visitors see the old site the whole time, so there is no downtime to plan.

What does a redesign cost?

The redesign is not billed separately. The proposal, the build and the preview are free, and the subscription starts only when you point your domain at the new site. After that, Lite is 3.90 €/month (46.80 €/year) and Pro is 9.99 €/month billed yearly or 13.99 €/month billed monthly (VAT 0 %). See pricing. Prices for the alternatives, side by side: what a website costs.

How long does a redesign take?

The new site is ready in about half an hour. Time to launch depends mostly on how quickly you review the site and point your domain at it.

Does it work if my current site is on WordPress, Wix or another platform?

Yes. Kamu reads the site the way a visitor sees it, so the platform does not matter. The site has to be publicly visible.
