Spotify on a Kotisivukamu site
Spotify is a streaming service for music and podcasts. Businesses with their own podcast usually need it on their site, as do musicians, choirs and event organisers.
How it works on Kotisivukamu
Spotify’s own player is embedded in the page, showing a podcast, a single episode, a track, an album or a playlist. Depending on whether the visitor is signed in to Spotify, they can hear a preview or the full content on the page, and open it in the Spotify app. The player adapts to the screen width.
Spotify’s player may set cookies, so it goes behind the cookie banner like a video: before consent its place shows a box with a button that opens the cookie settings, and the player is created once the visitor accepts cookies. A plain link to Spotify is always a lighter alternative and needs no consent.
Step by step
- Open the podcast, episode or playlist in Spotify and choose to copy the link from the share menu.
- Give the link to Kamu and say where the player goes, for example on the podcast page next to the latest episode.
- Check in the preview that the player shows and plays on a phone.
Spotify: frequently asked questions
Does the player update when I publish a new episode?
If you embed the whole podcast, Spotify’s player shows the episodes from Spotify’s data, so a new episode appears without a site change. A single episode embed always shows the same episode.
What about other podcast services?
Many podcast platforms have their own embeddable player, and it is added the same way. It is also worth linking to the services where the podcast can be followed, because not everyone uses Spotify.
Can I play background music on the site?
We do not recommend it. Browsers block automatic sound, and visitors usually find it disturbing. A player the visitor starts themselves works better.
