Google Analytics 4 on a Kotisivukamu site
Google Analytics 4 is Google’s free analytics tool. It is used especially when you buy Google ads and want to see which ad led to an enquiry or a purchase.
How it works on Kotisivukamu
Google Analytics is added to the site with just a measurement ID that starts with the letter G. You do not paste anything yourself. Because Google Analytics sets cookies, the site also gets a cookie banner with three categories: necessary, statistics and marketing. Google Analytics belongs to statistics.
Before consent, Google Analytics is not active on the page at all. The checkboxes are not pre-ticked, and the visitor’s choice is kept for about six months. Some visitors allow only necessary cookies, so Google Analytics shows fewer visitors than the site really has. Kotisivukamu’s own cookie-free analytics stays on alongside it and counts everyone.
Step by step
- Create a property and a web data stream for your site’s address in Google Analytics.
- Copy the data stream’s measurement ID, which looks like G-XXXXXXXXXX.
- Ask Kamu to add the ID to the site. The tag and the cookie banner go live with the next publication.
- Accept cookies on the site and check in Google Analytics’ realtime view that your visit shows up.
Google Analytics 4: frequently asked questions
Is Google Analytics needed if the site already has its own analytics?
Usually not. The basic numbers come from our own analytics without a banner. Google Analytics is worth adding if you buy Google ads and need conversion tracking, or if your marketing partner uses it.
Can a visitor withdraw consent?
Yes. The cookie settings reopen from a link at the bottom of the page, and once consent is withdrawn Google Analytics is no longer active.
Does Google Analytics cost anything?
The standard version is free. Adding the ID to the site is an ordinary change with no separate charge.
