Meta Pixel on a Kotisivukamu site
Meta Pixel is Meta’s tracking code that tells Facebook and Instagram advertising what a visitor arriving from an ad did on the site. It is needed for measuring ad results and for retargeting.
How it works on Kotisivukamu
All the pixel needs is the pixel ID, which is just a string of digits. Kamu adds it to the site, and you do not paste anything yourself. Meta Pixel belongs to the marketing category of the cookie banner, and it is switched on only after the visitor has allowed marketing cookies. Out of the box the pixel sends page views (PageView) to Meta. No visitor data goes to Meta before consent.
Because some visitors do not allow marketing cookies, Meta sees only part of the conversions. This is worth keeping in mind when judging ad results. Conversion events such as a form submission are not built in. They can be added on request, and it is worth agreeing on them at the same time as the pixel is added.
Step by step
- Create a pixel in Meta’s Events Manager or use an existing one.
- Copy the pixel ID and ask Kamu to add it to the site. If you want conversion events on top of page views, for example the form submission, ask for them at the same time.
- Publish the change. The site gets a cookie banner at the same time.
- Accept marketing cookies and check with the Events Manager test tool that PageView arrives.

Is the pixel worth adding if I do not advertise?
Usually not. Without advertising the pixel brings a banner and extra loading time but little benefit. It can be added when the advertising starts.
Can conversions reach Meta without the browser pixel?
Out of the box the site has only the pixel that runs in the visitor’s browser. Meta also offers a way to send events directly between services, but that has to be agreed separately.
