Matomo on a Kotisivukamu site
Matomo is an open source analytics tool that you can use in Matomo Cloud or install on your own server. It is used especially by organisations that want to keep visitor data under their own control.
How it works on Kotisivukamu
To connect Matomo you need your Matomo address and the site ID, both found in Matomo’s settings. Matomo can run without cookies when it is configured that way, and then it does not need a cookie banner. If Matomo uses cookies, it is put behind cookie consent like Google Analytics.
By default Matomo stores IP addresses, but anonymisation can be switched on in Matomo’s settings. These settings live in Matomo, not in the site, so they are worth checking before going live. Kotisivukamu’s own analytics stays on alongside Matomo.
Step by step
- Add the site in Matomo and note the site ID and your Matomo server’s address.
- Decide whether Matomo runs without cookies, and check IP anonymisation in Matomo’s privacy settings.
- Ask Kamu to add Matomo to the site and say whether Matomo uses cookies. If it does, Matomo starts only after the visitor has accepted cookies.
- Publish the change and check in Matomo’s real-time view that visits arrive.
Matomo: frequently asked questions
What does Matomo cost?
Self-hosted, Matomo is free, but the server and its upkeep are your responsibility. In September 2026 Matomo Cloud started at about 19 to 23 euros a month. Check the current price on the service’s own pages.
Which is better, Matomo or Kotisivukamu’s own analytics?
For most, our own analytics is enough: it is already there and needs nothing. Matomo is worth it if your organisation already runs Matomo or you need its reporting and goals.
Who maintains a self-hosted Matomo?
You or your IT partner. Kotisivukamu connects Matomo to the site, but updates and backups of the Matomo server are not part of our service.
