Contentful on a Kotisivukamu site
Contentful is a headless content management system used especially in larger organisations. Content is modelled as content types, written in Contentful’s web app and distributed from there to websites, apps and other channels.
How it works on Kotisivukamu
Content published in Contentful shows on the site as ordinary pages in the site’s own style, such as news or product presentations. Drafts do not show, so only what is published in Contentful reaches the site.
The connection needs a Contentful Content Delivery API key. Give the key to Kamu in the chat or add it in the dashboard under Integraatiot > Lisää avain. The key is used only while the site is built and never shows on the site. The content is fetched from the service every time the site is published. If you like, Kamu can also refresh it automatically once a day.
Contentful suits a business that already has a content team or several channels sharing the same content. For a small business it is often heavy, because the site’s texts can be edited directly in Kotisivukamu.
Step by step
- Create an API key in Contentful (Settings > API keys) and copy the Content Delivery API token and the Space ID.
- Give the key to Kamu or add it under Integraatiot > Lisää avain.
- Tell Kamu which content types are shown on the site and on which pages.
- Check the preview and publish.
Contentful: frequently asked questions
Can Contentful’s preview show on the site?
No. The site shows only published content, and drafts stay in Contentful.
What does Contentful cost?
Contentful bills you directly. Check the plan prices and limits on the service’s own pages.
Does Contentful slow the site down?
No. The content is already on the site when the visitor opens the page, so it loads as fast as the site’s other pages.
Who updates the content?
Content is updated in Contentful as before, and changes show on the site at the next update. Changes to the site’s structure and look are asked from Kamu as usual.
