Notion on a Kotisivukamu site

Notion is a notes and database tool that many small businesses already use for internal work. If your events, references or frequently asked questions already live in a Notion database, they can be shown on the site without keeping the same text in two places.

Notion website: notion.com

How it works on Kotisivukamu

You pick the Notion database whose content is shown on the site and share it with the Kotisivukamu integration. The site sees only what is shared with it, so the rest of your workspace stays private. The rows become a list on the site or a page each, such as an event with its date or a question with its answer.

The connection needs the key of a Notion integration. Give the key to Kamu in the chat or add it in the dashboard under Integraatiot > Lisää avain. The key is used only while the site is built and never shows on the site. The content is fetched from the service every time the site is published. If you like, Kamu can also refresh it automatically once a day. Give images as normal image addresses or add them to the site, because the service’s attachment links expire within hours.

Step by step

  1. Gather the content to publish into one Notion database and add, for example, a Published checkbox to hide a row from the site.
  2. Create an internal integration in Notion (notion.so/profile/integrations) with read access only, and copy its secret.
  3. Share the database with the integration from the database menu under Connections.
  4. Give the key and the database link to Kamu, or add the key under Integraatiot > Lisää avain. Check the preview and publish.

Notion: frequently asked questions

Can the site see my whole Notion workspace?

No. The integration sees only the pages and databases shared with it. Sharing can be revoked in Notion at any time.

Does a change in Notion show on the site straight away?

Not straight away. It shows the next time the site is published, or the next day if the automatic refresh is on. If the information must always be current, such as free places or stock levels, link to a service that shows it in real time.
