Ecwid on a Kotisivukamu site
Ecwid is an e-commerce service built to be embedded in an existing website. Products, stock, payment methods and shipping are managed in Ecwid, and the shop is shown on the page with Ecwid’s embed code. Ecwid also has a shop page of its own that you can link to.
How it works on Kotisivukamu
The site gets its own Shop page, and Ecwid’s embed code is added to it. The shop page shows the products, the cart and the checkout. Orders and payments are handled in Ecwid, and Kotisivukamu never handles them. A change in price or stock shows on the page straight away without republishing, because the data comes from Ecwid.
Ecwid’s shop view is built to work on a phone too. It is heavier than an ordinary page, though, so it is worth keeping the shop on a page of its own rather than embedding it on the front page. A highlight and a link to the shop page are enough on the front page.
Step by step
- Add the products, payment methods and shipping options in Ecwid’s admin.
- Copy the shop’s embed code from Ecwid’s admin.
- Ask Kamu for a Shop page and give it the code. Say which menu and highlights should link to the shop page.
- Place a test order on a phone in the preview and publish.
Ecwid: frequently asked questions
Is Ecwid free?
Ecwid has had a free tier for a small number of products, but the tiers and limits change. Check the current prices on Ecwid’s own pages.
Are the products visible to search engines?
An embedded shop comes from Ecwid, so search engines may not read the products the same way as the page’s own text. It is worth writing ordinary text about the products and product groups on the shop page too.
