Chat and support

Messenger on a Kotisivukamu site

Messenger is Meta’s messaging app. Customers can message a business’s Facebook page in Messenger, and many use it to ask about opening hours, table bookings or a quote.

Messenger website: messenger.com

How it works on Kotisivukamu

The site gets a button or link that opens a chat with your Facebook page. The link looks like m.me/your-page-name. On a phone it opens the Messenger app, on a computer Messenger in the browser. Messages arrive in the same place as the rest of your Facebook page’s messages, and the site never handles them.

The Messenger chat window in the corner of the page no longer exists, because Meta retired the website chat plugin in 2024. If you want a chat window inside the page, options include Tidio and Crisp. The link loads no Meta code into the page, so it needs no cookie consent.

Step by step

  1. Check your Facebook page’s username. It is the part after facebook.com in the page address.
  2. Try the link m.me/username on your own phone and make sure it opens a chat with the right page.
  3. Give the link to Kamu and say where the button goes, for example next to the contact details.
  4. Make sure someone reads the page’s messages. An unanswered message looks worse to a customer than a missing button.

Messenger: frequently asked questions

Can I have a Messenger chat window on the site?

Not any more. Meta retired the chat plugin for websites in 2024. Messenger is reached with a link, and a chat inside the page needs a separate service.

Does the customer need a Facebook account?

Messenger needs a Meta account. That is why it is worth keeping a phone number, email or contact form next to the Messenger button, so customers without an account can reach you too.
